ASLA Grant Opportunities
The Alaska State Literacy Association is an organization which is dedicated to professional opportunities for teachers. Yearly, ASLA hosts a conference at various locations around the state. ASLA provides a number of grants to support the efforts of educators in accessing quality professional development, classroom projects, and resources. Easy Money Grant
Easy Money is grant money for ASLA members. The State Board came up with the title “Easy Money” because this grant is so easy to win. You can apply for a grant to be used for literacy improvement just by filling out the simple form provided! You may enter as often as once per month, but you can only win once per school year. There are at least three (3) drawings annually.
Amount: $50 per grant. Deadline: Enter once per month.
Mini Grant
The purpose of the Mini-Grant is to encourage ASLA members and local councils to utilize creative, unique or new programs or teacher research projects in the area of reading/language arts. These programs or projects are to involve students, teachers, administrators or parents for the direct benefit of students. Three (3) grants will be awarded.
Amount: $500.00. Deadline: October 31th
Betty Leonard grant
The Betty Leonard Memorial ASLA Travel Award is established in memory of Betty Leonard who dedicated her life to helping others and to teaching children and adults. She served as president, coordinator, treasurer and various committee chairs of ASLA. The purpose of the travel award is to encourage an ASLA member to attend the annual conference and to grow professionally because of this experience. Betty believed strongly in helping others grow professionally as demonstrated by the time and energy she gave throughout her career. A stipend or a travel voucher plus waiver of registration fees will be presented annually to two (2) ASLA members to offset expenses for the annual ASLA conference.
Amount: $500.00. Deadline: May 30th.
